The distinction
Roster answers one question — who is on this site this morning — and deliberately stops there. It is not payroll, it does not compute hours, and it is not evidence for a wage claim.
Ask a subcontractor's crew to clock in on the general contractor's system and you have created a payroll argument, a privacy objection and a reason for the foreman to tell his guys to walk past the poster. Ask them to sign in for the morning and you get a straight answer, because nothing about it threatens anyone's paycheck.
The worker scans a poster and taps twice. Anything that asks a tradesman to create a login and remember it on a wet phone at 6:40 in the morning does not survive contact with a real gate.
A headcount is mildly interesting. Knowing at 7:15 that the fire alarm crew never showed, while you still have the morning to react, is the part that changes your day.
How it works
One printed sheet per entrance with a QR code on it. That is the entire installation — no reader to mount, no tablet to charge, no turnstile, nothing to wire.
The camera opens a page, the worker picks their company and their name, and they're logged. No download, no account, no password — roughly fifteen seconds, once a morning.
The superintendent gets one screen: who is on, who is short-handed, and who never arrived. Designed to sit where your team already looks rather than becoming one more login.
Status
Roster is in development and is not something you can buy today. It is being designed with the superintendents who would actually use it, which is the only way a product that lives on a gate at 6:40 in the morning has any chance of working. If that describes your site, the most useful thing you can do is tell us what would make you walk past it.
